Demonetisation, the NIA and the push by security agencies has led to a complete dip in the number of stone pelting incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. When compared to the previous year, 2017 has seen a 90 per cent fall in the number of stone pelting incidents, the state's police chief S P Vaid said. He also credited the people of the state for the situation improving. Raids by the National Investigation Agency or NIA, he said, were not the only reason for the change in situation in the state. He said that there were multiple factors at play including demonetisation and action against top commanders of terrorist organisations. The Director General of Police said that it was normal to witness 40-50 incidents of stone-pelting in a day last year. The police chief said there has been an improvement of the situation in the state due to demonetisation, arrest of terror supporters and increase in political activity.
